Using the budget template
1Enter your income
Salary, bonuses, side income — what you expect goes under Plan, what actually arrived under Actual.
2Allocate expenses
Housing, food, transport, health, leisure, savings. Add your own categories as new rows and totals follow.
3Watch the variances
Categories over plan are highlighted, and the balance at the bottom shows what is left at the end of the month.
Tips that make budgeting stick
Log spending weekly rather than monthly — small purchases are easier to remember. Duplicate the sheet for each month (right-click the sheet tab → Copy), and add a yearly summary sheet that references each month's totals for a chart of the whole year.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need an account or a subscription?
No. The tool is free and needs no sign-up. An account only adds cloud storage, so your workbooks follow you between devices and save themselves.
Can I change the categories?
Of course — it is a normal sheet. Rename, add or delete rows; the total formulas cover the whole range.
How do I keep my budget?
Click Download XLSX. With a Zotu account, the workbook stays in your cloud and opens on any device.
Can I share it with my partner?
Download the file and send it, or keep it in your Zotu cloud and open it from both of your devices.
